As most Catholics have heard by now, beginning with the First
Sunday of Advent, November 27th 2011, churches across the United States will be
using a revised Roman Missal. (click here for the changes in a PDF easy print
format).
One of the most important values and opportunities for
Catholics of the United States with the introduction to the New Roman Missal is
to deepen our love of the Mass and have a more intimate appreciation of the
prayers we pray, sing or hear. To do this we must have a better understanding of
why the church is taking these steps to introduce the 3rd edition of the Roman
Missal.
St. Raphael will approach the introduction to the New Roman
Missal in a number of ways.
-
The detailed revised text for the people’s parts are
available on this website
-
General Information meetings. Deacon Jim Grevenites will
be leading three information meetings scheduled for Tuesday, September 13
at
9:30am; Wednesday, September 21 at 7:30pm and Monday, September 26 at 7:00pm. These
1 and ˝ hour sessions will address three questions.
What is the Roman Missal?
What is the reason for changing it?
What is changing for us?
There will be plenty of time for questions and some handouts will be made
available. If there is a need and desire for additional meetings or sessions
with particular groups we will arrange for them.
-
Beginning the weekend of October 16th and through
November 20th the Sunday Bulletins will include various articles about the
changes.
-
Beginning about the 2nd week of October some of the sung
responses at Mass will change. The Gloria, the Holy Holy Holy (Sanctus) the
Memorial Acclamation and the Lamb of God, which have had some text changes,
will be sung. This will allow the assembly to become a bit more familiar
before the full changes of the text.
-
Along with the introduction to the music changes, there
will be Pew Cards in the pews providing the revised text for all the parts
shared by the people. These cards should remain in the pews to assist with
the singing, but they will still allow the assembly to see some of the
upcoming changes to the other prayers we share.
-
On the three Sundays prior to the implementation,
(November 6th, 13th 20th) one of the priests will offer a few minutes
introduction/discussion about the upcoming changes.
-
Saturday, November 26th 2011 – We officially begin!
If you would like to find out more about the Roman
Missal and how the changes will affect the celebration of the Mass we encourage
you to use the resources below which include the official church sites.
